Tour Overview

In this tour we will make the most of the city of Cusco. We visit the main scenarios and archaeological sites of Cusco, Sacred Valley, South Valley and Machu Picchu.

DAY 1

Airport - Hotel Cusco (Buy flights arriving in Cusco at the time of your choice)

According to your flight schedule, our team will receive you at the airport and we will go to your hotel in Cusco where you will be greeted with a cup of the famous coca tea.

You will have the afternoon free to acclimatize.

The city of Cusco is at an altitude of 3,399 meters above sea level

IMPORTANT TIPS ON YOUR ARRIVAL IN CUSCO

The first thing to consider when arriving in our city, is the height, if you feel very tired it is better to rest a few hours and when you wake up take quite a bit of coca. On the other hand, if you already feel well, drink coca tea, it will help you gain more energy and oxygenate the body.

It is necessary to exercise the body a little while doing light walks (you can walk through the Plaza de Armas, glimpse with the colonial constructions or make some kind of purchase).

It is important to drink plenty of water since the body is still acclimatizing.

In the first days it is advisable to eat light meals, and then you can experience the “Cuy Baked” (baked guinea pig), the Incas consumed it as part of their diet. At present, Peruvians, especially Cusco people, enjoy this stew that is tasted only at special events such as birthdays, parties in Cusco, etc.

There is something you should definitely not miss, on your days off, visit the Qosqo Center for Native Art, a music and dance show typical of the region, it is a true show. This show starts at 6:00 p.m., but we suggest you arrive at least 40 minutes before the queue, as it is a very busy place. If you have included in your package the general tourist ticket, you will have free access to this beautiful event. Entrance Ticket: S / 25.00 per person.

DAY 2

Cusco City Tour (Cathedral, Qoricancha, Sacsayhuaman, Qenqo, Puka Pukara and Tambomachay) - 05 hrs tour

This day you will know the best places in Cusco and the surrounding area.

We will start with the Cathedral , located in the Plaza de Armas, it is the main church of the imperial city, it was built on the palace of the Inca Wiracocha. The Cathedral has more than 300 paintings from the Cusco art school.

Then we will visit the Qoricancha , in the Quechua language means “temple of gold”, it was the first temple built by the Incas, it was formerly covered with large amounts of gold and silver.

We will leave the city of Cusco and arrive at the Saqsayhuaman complex , famous for its huge lithic blocks of more than 150 tons. In the Inca era the temple was considered to lightning, "the god Illapa".

Next, we will visit the temple of Q'enqo , a place dedicated to the Pacha Mama (Mother Earth) where you can appreciate carved stone constructions.

Then we will arrive at the impressive Inca fort Puka Pukara , in the Quechua language it means Red Fortress.

Finally, we will arrive at Tambomachay , where we will see the sacred temple dedicated to the cult of water that probably also had a purification bath function for the Inca rulers.

At the end of the afternoon we will return to Cusco, where we will leave you at your hotel or if you prefer in the Plaza de Armas.

IMPORTANT TIPS

The City Tour will start in the afternoon. You will have the morning free. Start it by having a good coca tea at breakfast and prepare yourself with a good pair of trekking shoes, as it will be a great help. We suggest getting to know the Plaza de Armas with its colonial temples, the Regional Historical Museum, the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Qoricancha Museum and the Museum of Popular Art. These places will make your visit even more unforgettable.

DAY 3

Sacred Valley of the Incas (Awanacancha, Pisaq, Urubamba, Ollantaytambo and Chinchero) - 10 hrs tour

This day you will know the wonderful Sacred Valley of the Incas also called the Vilcanota Valley .

We will start the day visiting the artisan center of Awanacancha , observe the famous llamas, have the opportunity to talk with local artisans, learn about their techniques and be dazzled by the richness of Peruvian crafts and textile art, here is an excellent place to buy those Memories for all our loved ones, make the most of it, because the fine handicraft and textile pieces are really impressive.

Then we will visit the archaeological complex of Pisaq , located on top of a mountain. This wonderful place is formed by groups of terraces and architectural structures scattered on the slopes and on top of the mountain. Mix the landscape with the wonderful buildings. Then we will go to the artisan market where you can appreciate a variety of works from ancient times.

We will pass through Urubamba where we will pause for lunch, we will taste the typical Peruvian cuisine, with a good variety of dishes, including salads, soups, background dishes, the famous ceviche and delicious desserts.

After lunch we will visit the architectural complex of Ollantaytambo , a living town built to monitor the entrance to this part of the valley and protect it against possible invaders. We will have the opportunity to walk through its streets and have a clearer idea of ​​how this military, religious and cultural center was during the Inca Empire.

Finally we will visit the picturesque town of Chinchero , where the remains of the royal estate of Tupac Inca Yupanqui are located, you can see its well preserved Inca walls in the main square. You will also visit the beautiful colonial temple with interesting frescoes on the porch that was built on the basis of an Inca building.

At the end of the afternoon we will return to Cusco, where we will leave you at your hotel.

DAY 4

Maras, Moray and Salineras - 05 hrs tour

This day we will visit beautiful Inca towns with their colonial houses, in this unique and pleasant tour we can appreciate the treasures that this sacred land hides.

We will start the day visiting the experimental agricultural terraces of Moray . Groups of circular terraces that measure up to 150 meters deep. According to historians, these constructions constituted an important Inca agricultural laboratory. Since its platforms are built with their respective irrigation channels and each of them constitutes a microclimate. What attracts more attention is the large annual average temperature difference between the top and bottom of the depressions, difference of up to 15 ° C.

Then we will go to the colonial town of Maras , a town that still retains its Andean traditions and customs. We can appreciate its beautiful architecture and its houses with colonial-style stone covers

Finally we will visit the Salineras De Maras . These mines continue to be exploited today, where peasants work every day since the Inca era.

At the end of the tour we will return to Cusco, where we will leave you at your hotel.

The return to Cusco will be around 2:30 p.m., therefore, you will have the afternoon free to take advantage of Cusco.

DAY 5

South Valley (Tipon, Pikillacta and Andahuaylillas) - 05 hrs tour

This day we will have an exclusive adventure, we will visit the picturesque and little explored Cusco South Valley.

Starting the tour we will go to Quispicanchis, where we will visit the impressive archaeological complex of Tipón , an important center of worship, where the Incas worshiped the water, one of the elements of nature considered sacred in the Andean vision, which circulates through canals and passes through terraces and waterfalls.

Then we will visit the archaeological complex of Pikillacta , Huari urban center, belonging to the Pre Inca stage, you can see that the constructions are very different from the Inca constructions.

Finally we will visit the village of Andahuaylillas , where we will visit its outstanding and fantastic 16th century church known as the Sistine Chapel of America due to the large number of paintings on its walls and ceilings. It has an organ decorated with angels and cherubs and prodigious murals by the famous artist Tadeo Escalante.

Before the return, we will have time for a brief optional visit to the Museum of Sacred Stones .

At the end of the tour we will return to Cusco, where we will leave you at your hotel.

IMPORTANT TIPS

This day, you will be acclimatized to the altitude, so we suggest you to taste a little of the gastronomy of Cusco, after the tour you can experience the “Cuy al Horno” (baked guinea pig), the Incas consumed it as part of your diet. At present, Peruvians, especially Cusco people, enjoy this stew that is tasted only at special events such as birthdays, parties in Cusco, etc.

DAY 6

Cusco - Aguas Calientes - 04 hrs trip

This day, at agreed time, we will pick you up at your hotel, we will go to the Ollantaytambo train station, there we will board the train that will take us to Aguas Calientes.

After a train journey of almost 02 hours we will arrive at the Aguas Calientes station, where our team will be waiting for you with a palette with your name, to drive you to your hotel.

You will have the afternoon free to get to know the town of Aguas Calientes and to enjoy its famous Hot Springs.

IMPORTANT TIPS

This will be the quietest day to relax. After 04 hours of travel from Cusco, you can rest the afternoon in Aguas Calientes. We suggest you visit the hot springs to relax the body. At the end of the afternoon, eat little and rest to take advantage of the great day at Machu Picchu.

DAY 7

Machu Picchu - Cusco - 02h30m tour

In the morning, agreed schedule, our guide will pass by your hotel to go to the bus station, for 30 minutes we will climb 400 m along a zigzagging path to reach the incredible wonder of the world “ The Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu ” known also as "The Lost City of the Incas"

Upon arriving at the citadel of Machu Picchu with our guide, we will show the entrance tickets, and start with the tour of the entire citadel. During 02h30m approx. We will visit the main places such as: The Plaza Mayor , the Temple of the Sun , the Sacred Solar Clock known as “ Intiwatana ”, the royal quarters, the Temple of the Three Windows , the Temple of the Condor among many other attractions that has the wonder of “ Macchu Picchu". At the end of the guided tour our guide will leave you in an area that you can use to take pictures.

In the afternoon it will be the return to the town of Aguas Calientes, where you will have free time to enjoy your lunch in one of the many restaurants or if you prefer at the Sanctuary Lodge (lunch is on your own).

After lunch, we will board the return train to Ollantaytambo (Depending on the availability of train departure time), the return will follow the same one-way route.

Upon arrival in Ollantaytambo, our driver will be waiting to take you to your hotel in Cusco.

TO TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION

Since January 1, 2019, the rules regarding the entrance to the Machu Picchu Sanctuary changed.

Now the time limit for the visit is 04 hours with entry shifts every hour. Our guided tour starts 8:00 am, as the overnight will be in Aguas Calientes.

The visit to the citadel of Machu Picchu is a one-way path; once through a part of the way, there's no return to that point. Also, there's no re-entry, once we leave, we can't re-enter. Re-entering is only possible if your ticket includes the Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu moutains.

In that case, you can only have a 1:30h guided tour, approximately, since it takes more time to climb the mountain.

Important Tips

We suggest you to leave your bags in the luggage storage of your hotel in Aguas Calientes, taking with you only the entrance ticket, documentation, money, a hat, repellent and sunscreen. On the return, you may get back your bags on the way to Cusco.

If the schedule allows, we recommend visiting the Chavez Ballon Museum, wich is the site museum of Machu Picchu. Admission from 12:00h is free, just present your valid passport.

In both low and high seasons, it will be necessary to line up to board the bus and the train towards and back from our destination. Our crew will help in order to save your time.
