Hiking the Choquequirao trail is a privilege. We start at the trailhead and look forward to reaching this increasingly popular archaeological site. We won’t see many visitors along the way, which makes this trail very special, and we can enjoy the beautiful scenery and connect with nature. You will enjoy the biodiversity and magnificent landscapes that will accompany us during the hike and encourage us to take on the challenge of reaching Kuna de Oro. This unforgettable experience, where we reach Choquequirao after hours of difficult ascent, is simply indescribable. We will visit this archaeological jewel that the Spaniards never reached and whose architectural structure, plaza, amphitheater and enclosures will truly amaze you. It will be an honor to visit this fascinating Inca archaeological site.
We will leave at 4:00 am from the city of Cusco to Cachora. We will arrive at approximately 7:30 am to the town of Cachora, where we will have breakfast. We will begin to organize the equipment on the horses, and then begin our walk.
After 2 hours of walking we will arrive at Capuliyoc (2915 m.n.m), where we will descend to Coca Masana (2330 m.n.m), where the climate is a little warmer. We will notice the change of flora and fauna in this region.
Finally we will arrive at Playa Rosalina (1550 m.n.m.) which is next to the Apurimac River where we will settle in and camp for the night.
After a good breakfast, we will be ready to continue our walk. This is considered the most impressive point of the trip. We will leave very early and begin the trip for approximately 5 more hours.
Upon arriving at Raqaypata, which is next to the Chunchullumayo River, we will break for lunch. During the walk we will be able to observe the variety of orchids, wild flowers and also many birds. From Raqaypata to Choquequirao we will reach a height of 3035 m.n.m. We will walk for approximately another 2 hours until we reach the Archaeological Site of Choquequirao, where we will have the opportunity to observe the sunrise and the flight of the condor. Our camp will be near the ruins.
This day will be memorable where we will dedicate ourselves to exploring all the Ruins of Choquequirao, the most important places, such as Temples, Agricultural Terraces, Military Zones, Astronomical Center and Sacred Temples. Our guide will explain to us about the history and importance of the archaeological sites. After the guided tour, we will have free time to visit the different sectors of the complex.
In the afternoon we will begin our walk back to Raqaypata where we will settle in and camp.
After breakfast we will continue our return trip along the same route, which will be quieter because we will descend to the Apurimac River where we will have lunch. In the afternoon we will walk uphill for 2 hours until we reach Chikisca. Camping.
We will take a new path that will take us to the town of Cachora where we will take our bus to return to the city of Cusco.

Lugar bonito e carregado de história!Posted on Tripadvisor Renato P17/04/2026Verified Ótimo lugar, lindo demais, cansativo mas muito gratificante! Excelente atendimento e prestatividade! Recomendo muito!Posted on Tripadvisor Peter16/04/2026Verified O Mais Desafiador!!! Visual do outro mundo! Explicou tudo perfeitamente!!!
